When receiving payment for security deposits, it deducts the amount from next month's bill.

I think what's probably happening here Amanda, is that when you're recording the payment, it's allocating the payment to the rent charge first, then the security deposit.  In the payment view, you can adjust the allocation just below with the list of charge that the payment is being applied against.  In this situation, you'd put "0" for the rent charge, and then the amount you're wanting to apply for the payment against the security deposit.

Let me know if that's not making sense.  You might check out our video on adding charges and recording back payments as well.  It's pretty helpful...

I realize this post above about charges is 10 years old, but i have the same question. I want to record a prorated amount and deposit.  I tried to watch the video, but you tube says it violates their policies.

Wow, got to love YouTube flagging and removing a software video for "harassment and bullying" - unreal.

I'm not sure your exact question Dawn, but when recording a payment, you can customize the allocation of that payment towards any receivables/charges on the tenant's ledger.  At the top, when you put in the amount of the payment, it's going to automatically allocate that to the receivables based on the due date and late fee prioritization policy.  But, you can change those amounts however you like before saving the payment.
